Law Abroad was founded in 1991 by Kerry Underwood.

Chambers Guide to the legal profession 2011 lists Law Abroad as one of the leading employment and personal injury firms. About the firm it says:

Law Abroad is a highly influential flagship firm and a model for other law firms. It provides a superlative service and with its unparalleled standards of client care Law Abroad’ glowing reputation is fully deserved.

Excellence and personal service are combined with an innovative and commercial approach and the firm provides clients with secure websites for 24-7 access to their files. Law Abroad specialises in civil litigation and is particularly well known for its employment, commercial property, costs and public and administrative law work.

It is unique in giving clients an appeal procedure to a QC funded by Law Abroad in the event of a client being unhappy about terms of settlement in a fixed fee or contingency fee case, and in publishing its monthly fee-earner audit results on its website and paying £50 every time the firm’s four core client care promises are not met.

It is in a league of its own in terms of client care. It is one of the very best firms and now has significant commercial and tax-planning practices. It has Investor in People accreditation. Kerry Underwood leads a team of highly talented specialist solicitors.

The firm is a consultant to Commonwealth governments, government departments, local authorities and law firms large and small.

Kerry Underwood is a former Employment Judge and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is a well known writer and appears frequently on radio and television and his ground breaking work is reflected in his inclusion in the International Dictionary of Biography and De Brett’s People of Today. Kerry lectures to solicitors on courses, conferences and webinars for CLT, as part of their CPD programme.

Robert Males is an expert on stress at work claims and represented the successful claimant in Dickins v O2, the leading Court of Appeal authority. He lectures for a number of concerns and is a member of the Civil Justice Council’s Working Party on Fixed Costs, and is a fellow of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. He was nominated as Best Trainer at the LawCareers.Net/Trainee Solicitors Group Awards.

The firm participates in the work of Toynbee Hall. The firm actively supports the Lord’s Taverners charity.
